Mostly, this means a job where you are standing up all day long is not recommended. The longer you stand up the more pressure that is placed on your veins and over a long period of time varicose and spider veins may appear. So, if there is any way you can find a job that does not involve constant standing then you will be able to reduce your risk of varicose and spider veins somewhat.

Hormones
Another factor that plays a role in phlebitis, varicose veins, and spider veins is an elevated level of estrogen or progesterone. The body has an increased level of these hormones during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause which can’t generally be changed. However, taking birth control pills and the like creates a higher level of these hormones in your body for an extended period of time. This puts you at risk for varicose veins and spider veins. So, if you really want to reduce your risk of varicose veins then consider using a birth control method that is not hormone based.

Weight
An individual’s weight also plays an important role in whether or not varicose veins will develop or not. The heavier an individual is the higher the risk of varicose and spider veins. This is because the increased weight puts a lot of pressure on the veins and can result in varicose and spider veins later in life. Of course, thin individuals may still develop spider veins and varicose veins but this could be later in life or due to genetics or some other risk factor. Overweight individuals will notice spider veins and varicose veins earlier in life than lighter people, for the most part, and the veins will typically be worse in overweight people.

Staying fit and at a normal weight for your height is important to reduce your risk of spider veins and varicose veins.
